How can a truce be achieved in Gaza?

Written by anon. on Wed Dec 31 11:19:00 UTC 2008. 1 recommendations.

Hamas doesn't know the meaning of the word 'truce' – it exists to attack Israel. This conflict will only end when Hamas is destroyed.

How can a truce be achieved in Gaza?

The Muslims will have to recognise that Israel has a right to exist. Israel will have to recognise that Palestine also has a right to exist with land. When they both agree to borders then the fighting will stop. To have a temporary cease fire will only allow the Hamas to rebuild its fighting force and extend the war.

Are the Israeli strikes on Gaza justified?

Written by Valentine, Toronto, Canada on Sat Dec 27 18:10:18 UTC 2008. 2 recommendations.

Israel is not dealing here with the Palestinian people or any form of organized government, it is dealing with a terrorist organization that has taken power in the midst of a terrible humanitarian calamity. Would the UK negotiate with terrorists? would the US? Israel has full rights to defend its sovereignty and the safety of its people. Collateral damage is unfortunate but is part of every war, including this one against the terrorist organization Hamas.

My guess is that, with this action, the region and the world will be very much improved. Three cheers for the Israelis.

Harold Pinter: Your memories

Written by Sandy Fox, Derby, United Kingdom on Thu Dec 25 23:34:29 UTC 2008. 1 recommendations.

We read Death of a Salesman in O level Eng Lit. A play of unremmitting misery with a totally predictable end (the title was a big clue). How anyone would choose to pay to see it is beyond me,

I have no idea what his other stuff was like. I was hardly going to venture into them after that miserable experience.

Harold Pinter: Your memories

I worked for Harold Pinter in the 1980s. I was a young stage manager working VERY hard and just remember him as a source of cutting remarks about what he clearly saw as our collective inadaquecy in terms of stage-craft.

He may have been one of the great wordsmiths of western culture, but on a personal level I remember him as a perfectionist who was frustratingly impossible to please.

Queen's Speech: What do you want to hear?

I want to hear her say that we will be having a general election and that the new government will be holding a referendum which will once and for all, ask if we want to wothdreaw from the EU so that we can return to the days os sanity when WE made OUR laws to govern OUR country, or do we wish to abolish parliment and give what little remains of this country to the un - elected and corrupt EU which will one day lead to civil war.
