Is the international reaction enough?

Written by Mohamed Hassan on Tue Aug 08 16:07:19 UTC 2006. 1 recommendations.

UN is helpless while US holds the veto. Israel has not abided by a single UN resolution, but talks of Hiszbullah not abiding by one resolution. Israel talks of Hizbullah blackmailing Lebanon, but Hizbullah itself is Lebanon. Do we see that Israel is blackmailing the world. Israel has to be deciplined, I believe the remedy given to Japan in Worl War II will work. Mutual respect will only prevail peace.

How should we lower carbon emissions?

Written by Richard Maddox on Mon Aug 07 18:15:28 UTC 2006. 1 recommendations.

Surely the proposal is a tax on car ownership.

To reduce carbon it should be a tax on the use of the car.

To hike the cost of car ownership to such a degree is totally unreasonable.

We already pay car use tax on our fuel - the more you use the higher your tax contribution. It is this that should be adjusted to achieve the required result. Perhaps the tax allowance could be increased to relieve the burden on lower paid.
Additional revenue to be ploughed into public transport/increasing energy efficiency.

I think the committee's findings are political suicide for any party and can only be seen as fuel to the whole debate.

It will also be a drop in the ocean if the USA and Third World countries don't take similar action.

>My parents are far more important to me than any of your opinions!

>Clare, Hastings

Due to global warming malaria, amongst other diseases, will spread from Africa to Spain.

It's an interesting way to show your love for your parents by contributing to their increased risk of dying from a disease!

Is the international reaction enough?

Written by extralargebill on Sun Aug 06 14:02:11 UTC 2006. 1 recommendations.

Israel, during a subversive incursion into a sovereign State: into Aitaa-al-Chaab, a Lebanese village, on July 12th 2006, suffered casualties. They also lost two soldiers who were captured (as in: "Prisoner of war captured"). Israel has now captured several Hezbollah Freedom fighters and will no doubt send them to Keziot; Israel's secret prison in the Negev desert. The Red Cross is not allowed there. Israel spews lies constantly. They cannot be trusted. Let's stay truthful.

Good riddance to those who wish to leave. Briton now welcomes peoples from all over the world in increasing numbers and will soon be a true multi-cultural country. Emigration will help achieve this sooner,

Are you a Brit abroad?

Written by David (ex-pat) on Fri Aug 04 17:46:24 UTC 2006. 1 recommendations.

Yes, David, however since there's a shortage of people under 30 in Britain, we need immigrants of breeding age who are willing to work. fortunately, we are able to shed some unproductive old folk by them going abroad. Win-Win all-round.

JON, CHESTER

Yes Jon, but all you are getting is a genetically diluted England, solve this and we wouldnt all be leaving! Read the comments in this article, people are fed up with the state of the UK. If you are sensible and can afford it, get out. If not, well, I'm sorry for you. England has now become a dumping ground for the worlds unwanted!

"Proud to be English, not proud of my Country!"

Dame Elisabeth Schwarzkopf

Written by Issai Chizen on Fri Aug 04 14:52:51 UTC 2006. 1 recommendations.

The Nazi programme was only possible with the support--or at least lack of resistance--of ordinary Germans. One didn't have to be anti-Semitic (although most Germans and Austrians were). I agree that Fr. Schwartzkopf was an incredible artist. But as one who benefitted from Nazi patronage, she should have been held to a higher standard. She was not, and nor were others, such as Karajan and Boehm, who directly benefitted from the persecution of Jews.

"It will affect us all, what a stupid question."
Gary Higgins, Liverpool, United Kingdom

Well yes I suppose that's right to some degree, but it will affect some of us positively.
