Ship-wrecked goods: Finders keepers?

2266 published comments with 56 censored.

Is it "crass greed" to take goods washed up on the shore from a stricken ship?

People who have been taking goods washed ashore from the container ship MSC Napoli have been accused of "crass greed".

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency said scavengers on Branscombe beach in Devon were making the clean-up more difficult.

Under the Merchant Shipping Act 1995, if people try to conceal or keep goods they are breaking the law. The ship-wrecked items still belong to the original owners.

Are people who take goods just making the situation worse? Have you taken anything from the beach? If so, why did you think it was yours to take? Do you live in the area? Send us your views and experiences.

Can you keep ship-wrecked goods?

How come yet again the Moderator has CENSORED my views when they DO NOT CONFLICT with any of the HYS HOUSE RULES?

tommi - I agree
I'm forever having my posts blocked on relatively moderated subjects.
Also, posts should not be withheld if they disagree with the subject. We all have opinions.
The last I knew we didn't live in a police state, so why won't they post my opinion? The house rules for 'rejecting' are ridiculous.
I freely admit to being homophobic - the act, in my opinion, is vile - It's MY opinion. There's no reason to block it. If other HYS readers object then they can say so

Then I'll mess about for 10 days or so with emails promising to pay etc, all from a new hotmail email address. I urge as many of you to do likewise - mess these thieves about!

Anybody decent and hardworking would've been at work yesterday or with their family at home. Others...would be on the beach...
Simply put...despicable greedy selfish behaviour. Typical yobbo culture...and it's the same ones again..!

Racism refers to a race. so-called 'chavs' are not a race other than part of the human race. Therefore to call them what they are is not racism. I wouldn't have used the word chav, anyway, rather, 'thief' springs to mind.

And just because one is poor does not mean one has to resort to stealing - it's still wrong.

The Chav (Homo Slouchus) is a semi-vertibrate, distinctive for its slumped posture.

If we have a revolution, can we get drunk at the same time? That'd be a proper British revolution then.

Also, can it wait until next weekend? I have plans this weekend that are incompatible with a revolution.

I have one final request. The leader has to be referred to as 'Captain' and must dress like a pirate at all times. Failure to adhere to this rule results in a new revolution.
