"I find it hard to believe, however, that anyone, other than the very saddest anoraks, takes HYS seriously enough to care about being most recommended." Robert Sharr, London, United Kingdom
You may find it hard to believe, but that includes a lot of things. Besides, your statement leaves a loophole for the truth to stroll through. The 'very saddest type of anoraks' are getting kicks out of 'winning' HYS.

Shut Tony Blair up, that would save lots of CO2. Sadly the reverse will soon be true when he joins the money making circuit. I'll bet he won't give a jot about global warming from August onwards.

Channel Fours programme was excellent, unfortunately it's not going to stop the IPPC publishing more of their cr@p this summer.
Expect more doom mongering horse s***t and tax increases.

"If a donkey is on the train line, what's the point of telling him there's a train coming? You cannot reason with a donkey. You must drag him to safety, heeing and hawing, for his own stubborn good." Devil's Advoctate.

If you've crossed the road 10,000 times and never got hit by a car, crossing the road must be totally safe! All the warnings about being hit by a car must be rubbish.
Cross the road with your eyes shut next time or get out of the way and let science do its job.

First, I would like to know leading scientists that deny global warming!. I am a Latin-American and I live in an island, what I can tell you is that we humans, are really changing our world. Coral Reefs that have been here for thousands of years are bleaching too rapidly (not normal at all), fish have plastic in their stomachs!, breeding seasons are not regular. But of course, you all sceptics live in cities and have no reality of what is happening outside your artificial world.

Ah so 1 TV show beats 30 years of research! Thats good I'm just waiting for the Bravo show that tells me drinking and smoking are good for you too.
If you research carefully the overwhelming evidence is for SOME manmade impact. Even the right wing pressure groups like CATO now admit this, they just pretend that its too expensive to reduce emissions.

Face it: Righty Rightwing/Robert Sharr - the idea that you are different people cannot be scientifically proven on HYS.
Therefore, my dear chap(s), you are the same dear chap, my dear chap(s).
And you would have a vested interest in saying what you have to say on the subject - therefore it is not credible.

I've no problem with the principle of replacing regular bulbs with low energy bulbs in principle - but there are several practical points
1) What is the environmental cost of manufacture of the low energy bulbs compared to tungsten filament?
2) Is there a low energy bulb compatible with dimmer switches and electronic timer switches? (as far as I can see, not yet)
3) Will this be every bulb (or just consumer standard 240V bulbs)

Sometimes only one scientists claims the correct theory, while everyone else opposes him-like Copernicus.
“GW is not happening”
Zbigniew Mazurak
How often is “sometimes”? Copernicus was opposed on religious grounds, not scientific.
To disprove GW you cite only 3 events (i.e. exceptions to disprove a gereralization). This is logically incorrect. Luckily for you the EU will take care of you so your opinion doesn't matter anyway. You probably fell hook line and sinker for the BBC4 show.

The only real way to reduce carbon dioxide emissions is to tackle the problem at source. This means the scientist community bending their efforts towards replacing the internal combustion engine with a cleaner alternative.
Gareth Bristow
I earlier listed several companies that are already developing fuel cell technology for use in cars and other applications. Unfortunately without some sort of pressure, from tax or carbon allowances, there is no chance that the car industry will adopt them.

Ian McQuattie said (in one of the highest recommended comments):
"It's all pretty obvious - CO2 is a tiny fraction of the atmosphere, humans attribute a tiny fraction of CO2 compared to nature. It's virtually negligible."
Whilst this appears reasonable, and may or not be true, it's not a valid argument. To use an analogy: I've walked millions of steps in my lifetime, but if I'm near the edge of a cliff that one extra step ceases to be negligible. The question is, are emissions at a cliff?

Very conveniently one of the biggest light bulb manufacturers in Great Britain has just been pushed out of business - just in time for an "EU partner" to save us by supplying our needs in the future. Nice timing, I must say - & not at all suspicious.
As with our UK car industry, our shoddy Governments (all of which have lied to us about the EU) of the past 30 years are sacrificing British jobs in support of their "progressive EU internationalist agenda".
Great Britain OUT.

I know very little on the science of climate change, but I do know that the C4 programme was exceptionally unbalanced and showed views on the fringe of what is scientific consensus.

""No, waters freezes at 0 centigrade. Any river would make short work of any bridge.
Max Nicks"
So riddle me this: why do ponds freeze when the river stays open?"
I'm no expert but i would suggest it may be because water in a river is fast flowing whereas a pond's is still thus being harder to freeze. Either that or the otters eat the ice so they can see the stars at night. Or possibly pixies.

John B, please go to the IPCC's website, read it all, and spend a few weeks researching the subject - with an open mind. Then we'll talk.
Julian Gibson, London, United Kingdom
That would be the IPCC report that certain eminent scientists had to threaten the IPCC with legal action to have their names removed from, would it?
The arrogance of the Green Taliban is startling. You have no proof of mans contribution to the natural cycle of warming that the Earth has always gone through.

Does EU deal on climate go far enough?
No, but there is an even greater and real need for applying extensive pressure on the pigs of the world, especially the USA, to stop being ignorant and selfish and join inn the treaty for making real and immidiate impact....for their Children too.

The BBC mods are not daft - they can see our IP addresses & would no doubt stop multiple identities posting from the same IP address.
Righty Rightwing
Oh please, your pretence is thin. I have been in written talk with the senior mods about this issue. They are well aware of the size and scope problem and the identity of The Usual Suspects. They are seeking a fair way to put a stop to it. As you say, they are not daft, they know precisely what is happening.

"How about a debate on whether this topic comes up far too often on HYS.
[pressmeister]"
What, and pass up another opportunity to bash George W. Bush, the United States, and Americans as a whole? Never!
Does EU deal on climate go far enough?
HYS is misleading people! The 'Most Recommended' board is FULL of the same obsessive posters who continually hog HYS threads by pumping their posts to the top with the multi-vote-trick. Normal HYS users assume their comments are 'popular' and 'worthy' but they're NOT!
The loud tub-thumping that dominates HYS is the product of CHEATING, not popular approval!
When will the BBC scrap the vote system? It IS corrupted beyond meaning. HYS is now a game for votes played by sad, addicted posters.

A 20% drop in EU CO2 emissions could be quite easily achieved by kicking the French and Germans out of the EU. Of course, this would have other, far-reaching, benefits.

"buy the low wattage light bulbs, yes a good idea if only they was so much cheaper, we bought some a couple of years back it cost us about £15 never again they only last a few months"
You obviously don't know where to shop. I bought a load for about £1.50 each and they last many years - far longer than incandescent bulbs.
Waitrose - cost £1.49!

""and the academics who appeared on it isolated voices in the wilderness!""
Yes, one of the scientists on the programme was a voice in the wilderness, as he had to sue the "creators" of the IPCC report to remove his name.
Those of you supporting the mythical cult of MMGW are paddling the same boat as Tony Blair - a man we have grown to really trust, right?
I am looking forward to you all posting your apologies when you realise that the GW emporer has no clothes.
Does EU deal on climate go far enough?
I have just noticed that my last post was posted at exactly the same time as Robert Sharr posted his - dispelling the left wing HYS myth that we are one in the same person once & for all.
Sorry to go off topic.....
Does EU deal on climate go far enough?
Oh for goodness sake.
There is only so much fossil fuel. Even if man-made Global Warming is a myth we shouldn't be squandering our resources the way we do. I say we should be reducing our energy usage anyway.
And to the we-want-more-proof brigade. By the time it's proven it will be too late.
