I feel I am unqualified to comment on this item. I cannot get any service from my GP either during or out of hours. The service at the local hospitals, however, I can comment on from experience. It is atrocious.

Just so we are clear THIS issue arose because GPs were allowed to choose their hours and they chose not to work out of hours. NOTHING to do with scarce resources.

You miss the point. I don't think working immigrants pay more than working Brits. It's just that a higher proportion of immigrants than Brits are working, as most immigrants are young adults. So immigrants as a whole contribute more per head to the economy than Brits do.

I have a problem with both lazy British people and foreign people (illegal immigrants and immigrants who dont work) sponging from my hard worked tax. That would be great IF all immigrants DID work and DID pay their taxes. It still doesn't solve the problem of not being able to see a doctor though. More GP surgeries are needed to cope with the amount of patients in a catchment area.

Not that long ago we had NHS dentists. We had out of hours GP cover, we also had Saturday surgeries. Then that nice Mr Blair came along and told us how we only had 24 hours to save our NHS. I, Yes some things have improved, but there seems to be a great many things which are a long distant memory. Phone NHS direct - told to go to A&E - ours is being closed!

You have to experience London (and I'm sure other big centres of immigration) to understand the impact of immigrants on GPs. I bet in Letchworth you DO see more locals simply because that reflects your population profile.

In answer to your question above - we only blame immigrants when they are to blame - i.e. flooding over here and using up all our water, power, housing, health services etc., so when the debate is about those matters then the people to blame get the blame, this country is full - go elsewhere

Changes made to out-of-hours GP services in England have been criticised by the Commons Public Accounts Committee.
It said preparations for the new contract, which allows GPs to opt out of working at night and weekends, were "shambolic".
