That’s a point can’t we help the Africans on red nose day by sending them the rubbish they can use it as fertiliser and grow crops on it when they can be arsed to do anything rather than hold out a begging bowl.
Jack Smith
Or if they are that starving they could eat it.
Rodger Smith
Nice - are you two charmers related ?
Uxbridge R, Uxbridge, United Kingdom
Yea they are related to all the other rascist scum who infest HYS with there evil rubbish

Oh GOD for just TEN MINUTES of Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan!

We are just about clearing up the mess left by those 2 numpties. Although in your country Bush has done a spectacular job of turning a democrat budget surplus into the biggest deficit ever, voodoo economics? you betcha. Thatcherism resulted in civil strife, the highest unemployment since the 30s and the decimation of services we are just beginning to recover from.

Incidentally if the food is eaten rather than dumped its also turned into greenhouse gases: CO2 breathed out or methane expelled in "other ways".[Peter_Sym], Nottingham

I suggest we kick out people like the above to to reduce the overpopulation we have in this country. I would rather have immigrants than people like the above.

The real trash is people like these - perhaps we just need larger bins to accomodate them??

Correction: I'm no LONGER in the UK, but do you think that we staple our cats' bottoms shut here in the USA? We have to get rid of their poo here, too...and the same hazards you pointed out apply here, too. We still put it in the bin (just as we did when we lived in the UK) because there is NOWHERE ELSE TO PUT IT.

Send all animal waste to the US, its one big toilet and full of cr-ap anyway!!

Apparently we bin 1/3 of our food. According to the govt's dubious figures, 1/2 of this wasted food consists of teabags. They think we should eat our nice teabags?!
Given that they are counting used teabags as food, presumably the rest of it is cabbage cores, potato peelings and chicken and fish skeletons. So what do these a***holes want us to do with this stuff if not throw it away? If you live in a flat you can't compost, and anyone who's seen Time Team knows bones last forever.

Here we go again, we are all grumbling about getting ripped off again by councillors and yet we will still abide even if we don't like it. Councillors know we are just hot words and will take no real action about this.
That is why we get **** on more and more, we grumble but do zilch about it.

Why can't people read? Fortnightly collections doesn't mean half the number, it means recyclable waste one week, non-recyclable the week after. Seems to work well enough in much of Europe - only in this country do you get an outcry from those who are either lazy or singularly lacking in a social conscience. Here's an idea - offer people a cut in council tax dependent on the amount they recycle - bet the amount would quickly shoot up.

"You should NOT be putting animal waste in the bin, that's disgusting." - jason howarth, Rochdale.
You're right, Jason. Tonight, instead of watching Comic Releif, I'm going to train my cat to use (and flush) the bathroom toilet. I'll print out your post and hold it in front of him for motivation.
Suffolk Boy
After reading your comment, I decided to give it a try as I have tow cats. It worked! No more litterbox to clean, or smelly bin.
Thanks for the laugh!

"...The blame lies absolutely with Tory Heath for his treachery.. and pseudo-Tory Blair for his total ardency for Europe. We are fools in the middle, complaining 30 years too late, when in 1975 we could have voted to leave" - Beelsee Clark, Poole
What we voted for or against then, was to remain in or leave THE COMMON MARKET, a TRADING arrangement. We did not vote to enter a POLITICAL entity known as the EUROPEAN UNION which would enact LEGISLATION governing life in the UK

Chris Evans: if you don't like them vote them out.
My Reply: Easier said than done in a democracy where more people did not vote for the party that won the last general election than those that did. Here MP wise there is little point in voting unless its Lib Dem! It is very hard to vote anyone out unless you're in a marginal Constituency.

(Robert: If you can't cope with a fortnightly collection you're just lazy and probably not very bright.)
How dare you make such a generalisation and judgement on peoples needs!
You might be the hardest working 'brain of britain' but you haven't got a clue about the difficulties that lots of people face!
I expect you have a Butler to do these menial tasks for you!
That would explain your arrogance!

Isn't Wales home to loads of valleys and almost bereft of population?
Why can't we just fill up a couple of valleys with rubbish?
Merthyr Landfil anyone?
Are fortnightly bin collections enough?
And all these "Valley's people" vote Labour too(except the Blaenau Gwent wolves((not sheep)), who voted in an Independent candidate and overturned the biggest Labour majority in the UK), so we could bury the bad news!!

Are fortnightly bin collections enough?
Well this govt are SO good at sending jobs abroad because of the ecconomic climate that THEY'VE created, then why not send all our rubbish abroad as well? I am sure that would reduce our council tax bill - for once, they would creat another 4 million jobs in Asia and we could all say that we've helped a poor country create some wealth. Everyone's a winner baby, that's the truth!

Re Cats - "Actually, they use other people's gardens, parks, and any other accessible space they can find. Thus putting everyone's children at risk of toxocariasis" - Andrea Chee, Canterbury
In my experience, having had many Cats over the years, I find that they rarely wander out of their own Garden, especially if neutered, which they should be. Feral Cats are a different matter

Its clear from many HYS debates there is considerable unrest in this country, for years successive goverments have said " we need to listen to the people" it is clear THEY DO NOT LISTEN! if they do THEY DONT HEAR! or DONT want to HEAR it is indeed about time we STOOD UP for OURSELVES sadly it seems the Ballot Box is not working! not a single Politician from any Party! has the spine or the will to stand up and be counted and Govern! weres Cromwell?
Are fortnightly bin collections enough?
There is massive unrest. Give this HYS 100 recommendations before it is removed. Vote for ANYONE else to oust the sitting Councillor at the next locals in May. We must move control back to the people.

They can afford a mere NINE billion and rising for the Olympic games that nobody wants, so why oh why are we even having this debate about rubbish? If Bliar was so keen on CoolBritania, he would've sorted HIS rubbish mountain out first. It's like every single other thing that's gone wrong with the country, crime, schools, NHS, armed forces - NuLabour have meddled with it all, and none of it now works, including the council rubbish collections. I don't think Cameron will put it right though.

Limit imigration, (no more than 20 million should live on a landmass this size) cut the number of people generally worldwide, STOP listening to 'The American dream', it's simply NOT working! & SACK BLAIR! After all, he is rubbish!
Are fortnightly bin collections enough?
As a law-abiding, employed, white, single middle-aged male not eligible for all the council handouts to which minorities and other single interest groups can sponge, refuse collection is about the only tangible service which I can observe receiving in return for paying extortionate council tax bills. And now even that is set to deteriorate doubtlessly to lavishly fund more important politically correct obscure initiatives.
Are fortnightly bin collections enough?
No the bin emptying is not adequate. And for all you Mr & Mrs Perfect, supermarket foods are treated so that they don't last too long, and have to be replaced, that's why you have 'sell by and use by' dates on them. Coupled with the tons of unnecessary packaging used by these supermarkets rubbish will increase. Why can't they go back to placing perishables in the brown or white paper bags like they used to? No need for recycling they can be burnt or left to rot away. It's not rocket science is it?

Homes across Britain throw away just under a third of all the food they buy, a report is expected to reveal.
The waste food goes into landfill sites where it breaks down and causes greenhouse gases.
The government is keen to reduce the amount of food wasted in order to combat climate change but also as the country is running out of landfill sites to use as dumps.
The study was undertaken by the government's waste body, Wrap and comes as more local councils are considering switching to fornightly bin collections.
What should we do to limit the amount of food we waste? How often is your rubbish collected? Would fortnightly bin collections encourage you to recylcle more? Send us your views.

BRING BACK MAGGIE
D Boardman
Oh GOD for just TEN MINUTES of Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan! Ugh, the good ole days, huh kids? Back when our government knew to treat you as a FRIEND, not ally. Well, Britain has an uncanny ability to produce demi-gods for leaders just in time to save the world. I'm sure when the rubbish starts smelling up the island enough another Maggie will come along.

There are people in this world who are starving to death- we are the lucky ones. The things you moan about are trivial in comparison. Be grateful
ready to go home, london
I would be starving, if I bred like the Africans do and had 15 kids at my refrigerator, not really think of the tax credits.

Phosgene Gasse

For that silly Cameron man? He can't fix the tax burden without slashing spending and if he does that, the tax whingers will whinge about poor services.
You can't please the terminally whingy wallet-brained! Dave - love the new hairdo - makes him look unbald - sort of.

Simply steal another wheelie bin from somewhere (outside a block of council flats is a good place)and put an 'A' on it, ie if your house is number 42 put 42A on it.
City councillors & their employees are the thickest idiots on god's earth. A simple application of thinking power will always get around their ill-conceived plans.
Don't get mad, get smart.

No way...have you seen how fat most people are in this country? i reckon its greed coupled with food packaging, Brits are too obese to leave much food especially the fattening food and just chuck away vast amounts of cardboard and plastic packaging...I reckon this posting should generate a reaction.

But it's ok to throw away dirty nappies, sanitory towels etc? What do you expect people to do with it?
[politeDevoz]
Quite! Our local council have kerbside rubbish collection rather than bins (and living in an upstairs flat we have no outside space for a bin anyway), which means rubbish such as this would have to be kept in the flat for up to a forthnight until the black bags go out onto the pavement for collection. It's bad enough for a week! Ugh
Are fortnightly bin collections enough?
One solution would br to start burning all you rubbish in the back garden.
This idea should go down well. I can picture all the global warming fanatics having apoplectic fits.
Another suggestion is to just drive to your nearest quiet country lane and tip your rubbish on the verge, this will give your local coucil some work to do to justify the exorbitant rates they charge.
Are fortnightly bin collections enough?
Just claim your Muslim and Shariah Law states the bins need collecting every week. The council's diversity and inclusion facilitator will come round personally to empty the bin!
