A Proper Prime Minister, 10 Downing Street, United Kingdom

1) no police left on the streets to catch them

2) no profit in it so they won't try anyway

3) if they did catch them, no prison spaces left to put them

4) if they did catch them social services would be there like a shot, pandering to their every whim and taking them to Alton Towers

It is a shame. Beautiful historic things like the CS are what make this country what it is. You are all entitled to your views, but those who say £25m could be spent on better things, make whineing at the NHS a priority then, instead of belittling the work that historians do trying to preserve our history.

What does the damage to the Cutty Sark mean to you?

A "suspicious" fire has ripped though the famous 19th Century clipper Cutty Sark, causing extensive damage.

An area around the 138-year-old tea clipper was evacuated amid fears that gas cylinders were on board but it has been confirmed that none were present.

The ship was undergoing £25m renovation works and was closed to visitors.

If you don't like it, go and clean your car or something, personally, the is nothing better than a reactively moderated debate to ease your stress and get rid of some tension. Its one of the few things left that can actually make me laugh out loud sometimes, TV certainly can’t

[caltech1]

The first time i've ever agreed with you. ;o) Next i'll be agreeing with leftwing lefty or Widuran... Actually.. maybe not ;o)

'I’d leave the charred remains as a reminder of the culture borne from a nanny state and put the saved relics in a museum for more civilised people to enjoy.'
Frank Sidebottom, Kendal, United Kingdom

I thought it was the product of a culture borne of unfettered self-interest, do-as-i-like with no sense of responsibility. Thanks to Maggie Thatcher in particular for that.

You've got your wires crossed mate.

What an idiot. Thatcherism was all about giving people personal responsibility and not relying on a nanny state.

Was only a matter of time before it was her fault. Sheesh.. idiot...

Lets not forget the Maddy story, or our soilders in the middle east getting blown up every day. These things mean so much more and to be honest i couldnt care less about an old moored up boat in london town.

Ricky Dulay, Leamington Spa

There's always one, isn't there? Good Lord your life must be boring, mate. Does your mind really never leave Iraq and the like or do you just put on the earnestness in public? Personally, I'm more upset about the Cutty Sark than a child I've never met.

"I've made some decent comments but because I'm not making fun of anyone or being stupid the mods have chosen not to publish them.
I was born in Greenwich! Do my views not matter?"

Oh dear. Do you really think Jeremy Paxman is the moderator ?

It's probably some kid on a 'Meeja Studies' placement :-)

The boy stood on the burning deck,
His legs were all a quiver.
he gave a cough, and one dropped off and floated down the river.

Unfortunately not. Mr blair signed a treaty, I believe in 2002 saying the death penalty could not be used in Britain any more regardless of the crime involved.

Why not replace it with an opium or slave trade ship or a ship
used to transport all that treasure and gold you brits robbed and murdered
for around the world.. something that you all can really be proud of.

Like people have been saying : it was juat a boat. You'd think someone had died the way people are carrying on. People put too much emphasis on material things.

David Nisbet, Kirkintilloch, United Kingdom

It's a piece of history, I take it you don't keep hierlooms or visit museums or would be distraught if your house caught fire?
