How will the smoking ban affect you?

On 1 July smoking in enclosed public places will be banned in England. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland already have such a ban.

Anti-smoking and medical organisations have long been campaigning for a full ban but smokers’ groups and some in the hospitality industry argue that this will restrict freedom of choice.

Will you benefit from the change? Or do you think it goes too far? Do you work in a pub or restaurant? Have you been trying to quit? If so, how will the ban affect you? Send us your views and experiences.

Do you have any questions on this topic? BBC News 24 will be discussing the smoking ban in the England and would like to put your questions to on Friday. If you'd like to send us a question, begin your message with Question for N24

Great news that Alan Johnston seems to be alive and well. However, I was surprised that following Alan's appeal you broadcast the message from the Islamic organisation holding him, which to me seems as though some deal is being done between the bbc and this organisation viz: his release is conditional upon your broadcasting their message.
I've no problem with this personally, and think in the interests of balance that such groups should have their message broadcast, but in this case......

People do things that affect me in an unpleasent way all the time, ie: Drive their car and puff fumes in my face, leave their stinky kebabs on my doorstep after a night out, p*issing on said doorstep, swearing in public, the list goes on. But I have tolerance, and so I tell them off, but I dont ridicule them.

It won't affect me, really. I don't go into pubs much at all as they're either full of drunk kids or drunk adults. Either way, a room full of p***heads isn't my idea of fun.

What's that? Not all people in pubs are p***heads? You're offended? Diddums.

Not all smokers are selfish people, and I quite resent the implication- I don't smoke around non smokers, and I don't intend to. However, I might start considering your attitudes. Not all Germans were Nazis, you know.

What concerns me more is when the BBC puts up a HYS regarding pedophiles in the community and makes it fully moderated, c'mon beeb make it relatively moderated, i'm sure theres a lot people wish to say about these monsters.

So, your argument remains unchanged...?
You really do think all the cool kids smoke...?

James Ashwin, Oxford, United Kingdom

Harry is so much cooler than you. However you have 30 days to take up smoking and change into the "Koolest Kat" (see what I did with the letter K instead of C, making it seem more "K"ool) in town. Come James just a one drag...it won't hurt!!

I will ask my question again since nobody could come up with a satisfactory objection.

If you allowed non-staffed, well ventilated smoking rooms in pubs and clubs that can accomodate them - would anti smokers object?.

How can anyone want to ban something where they would never ever go or be affected by?

denis shaw, london

Good man Denis!

These are people who could start an argument in an empty room.

They would ban it BECAUSE THEY CAN.

Thanks Blair you Get!

"those of you who find that most of the interesting people you know are smokers, what exactly is your point?

Andy Slater, Wigan, United Kingdom"

Like you, clearly, I am a new boy on the block - but already I have gathered that on HYS there doesn't have to be a point.

"I hope there is some violence against non smokers by smokers.

Bob Jim "

I think that I speak for all non-smokers when I say,

"Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough!"

I love the comments from rabid anti-smokers who for some reason think that everyone else in the new fresh air pub will adore their little darlings charging around, screaming and stinking of soiled nappies.Oh, didn't think anything YOU like to do should be BANNED?

I for one think children should be banned from pubs!Give me a smoker anyday.

Where did this ridiculous term 'smokers rights' come from in the first place? Since when has it ever been a 'right' to give someone else lung cancer, emphysema or coronary heart disease? Might as well call them 'murderers rights', or 'selfish b*st*rds rights' - that would be much a much more fitting term. Hurrah for the ban, which is well overdue, IMHO.

For too long smokers have touted about their human rights whilst denying my right to a good health.

If you are too weak willed to stop then you should have been smart and not started the pointless habit.

Well, I must say, I am gonna gloat when I see them all outside puffing away. The boot is on the other foot now and I love it.

Daniel Hilton, Rochdale

Too weak willed to stay out of pubs?
Must be fantastic for your health, all the
boozing you intend to do.

Britvic man I guess.
