Should flexible working be available to all?

Is it a good idea to give workers more flexible hours and the chance to work from home?

UK workers lag behind the rest of Europe when it comes to flexible working opportunities, says a new report.

The study, by the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC), found that the UK was stuck in a fixed hours culture.

Of 8,000 firms quizzed, 90% in mainland Europe made flexi-time available, compared with 48% in the UK.

The EOC wants flexible working, including tele-working and shift-swapping, to be extended to all, not just those with parenting or care commitments.

Do you have a flexi-time agreement? Has it improved your workplace? Would flexi-time be practical for your company? How does it impact on productivity?

Funny how all the women think the women should have won. This leads me to my next problem. All women interview pannels. Is it really fair to have women on interview panels when they can only see the qualities of women? Simon seemed highly skilled, hard working and had the ability to inspire without threatening... something that woman lacked COMMENT STATUS:Awaiting moderation

Bob Jim

Thats women moderators for you?

Yeah why should rascist comments be allowed. Sexist yes racist certainly not

Bob Jim

Yes Bob. God (and of course I make reference to no one particular God) forbid anyone ever even mention race...we are all the same, we are all the same, we are all the same, we are all the same.........

As for sexism, well, we all know it's all just a laugh and you are a bra burning lesbian if you think otherwise.

I blame tony blair for the breakdown in society, I can't wait for him to get lost. I'm just a bit scared big fat brown is going to be worse.

Knickers to this silly debate.

Lovely! They can leave 7 million comments in the moderation queue of a fully moderated topic but are avilable to remove posts from a fairly light-hearted topic in lightning speed!
Money well spent, I say, Mr License Fee Collector!

A PRETTY NURSE (previously William Shears) is in fact the Memsahib and was banned for less than ladylike references to our much loved moderators. She is back on HYS under another tag, but is currently lying worryingly low.

"Whatever happened to "A Pretty Nurse"? Someone please tell? what was she banned for?

She was so feisty and very arousing.

Not politicaly correct enough for the BBC Taliban thought police."

Not sure why I got moderated and Anne from Weymouth did not. I have my suspicions though.

It's simple. Her comment was funny, whereas yours was sad and misogynistic.I blame pen*s envy, though it is unusual for a man to suffer from this.

I want things NOW !

Not when it suits some part-time woman who has had 2 yrs paid holiday to breed more potential welfare scrounging chavs.

Flexi-working is for lazy people .

Flexi-working is disjointed and puts enormous strains on employers ; I know this from experience.

The only people who can successfully work flexi-time are the French and Italians who don't actually work at all and sleep all afternoon.

1)Simon was cut to look like an idiot. You must have watched Big Bro!

2)Women are more critical of other women anyway.

So whats your point?

My Dad once opened a wool-combing mill and tried running it on flexi-time. But dem employees? They abused the system like a m0-f0. Then, it was left to the few that worked hard to clean up they mess and cover they punk-@ss hours, whilst the slackers be 'laying the cut straight' sittin on they asses and getting their drink on and their snack on. In the end, they ruined it for themselves and ended up on strict, appointed shift patterns, y'all.
