Is 'junk sleep' damaging teen health?

499 published comments with 83 censored.

Teenagers are damaging their health by not getting enough sleep and the popularity of electonic gadgets may be to blame, researchers say.

The Sleep Council, who polled 1,000 teenagers, found that gadgets in bedrooms are fuelling poor quality 'junk sleep'.

Almost a quarter of teens said they regularly fell asleep with the TV, music system or another gadget still switched on. 40% also said they felt tired during the day.

Researchers called the findings "worrying" and said youngsters should be taught that sleep is important for good health.

How can teenagers be encouraged to get more sleep? Should parents limit the number of gadgets in the bedroom? Do your children get a good night's rest?

Children must be taught to follow the Christian Way - nothing else is as important! If they asked "what would Jesus do"? they would spend their time much more profitably by engaging in prayer and fellowship with other young Christians. It is no wonder they are not healthy given todays ungodly society! It is up to the parents to bring these little lambs back to the Shepherd's fold.

Seems fair enough to me. When they get older they will have to be working 14 hours a day 7 days a week to feed politicians' love of war and love of taxes, so they may as well get used to not having much sleep now - they face a lifetime of it.

To pay for the house prices when they get older, the kids of today will all need second jobs, and will have to work very long hours,"this is if they dont have kids of their own just to get a fully subsidised or paid for, for life council place"
8 - 10 hours sleep a night will be a sheer luxury, for all those who wish to own their own homes.
Only the "Council House Accomidation Vultures" (C.H.A.V's) will get a good nights sleep as they will never willingly leave the gravy train, funded by others.

I have an interesting HYS topic:

Is there a "Right" and a "Left" ?

Or is there, (as is my opinion) just a whole bunch of individuals, each with their own selfish wants, desires, and views.

There is no such thing as a 'society'. People only work together if it suits them, or if they are paid for it.

Why do people bang on about the "Left" and "Right" ???
We are all the same at the end of the day.....

Some of my posts get published and
1) I'm not a Labour voter (anymore).
2) I'm not left wing. Neither am I right wing, come to think of it. I'm more or less in the centre.
3) I do pay my TV licence but
4) I bloody hate paying tax.

So I would be grateful Phosgene Gasse if you can tell me who I am, apart from someone who likes a pint?

Graham Bishop, Warwickshire

I'm guessing a bit of bore? Into top gear, and the occasional lads mag? Doesnt mind getting bladdered but thinks drugs are evil. Has some black mates but thinks immigration must be stopped. Doesnt think any music not played on real instruments should be called music. Loves late Pink Floyd. Go on, am I close? Or just a bigot :)

Poor parenting all round is damaging children.

Why so?

There has been a general breakdown in society - children either don't have two parents or if they do, the parents are out working and not monitoring the activities of their kids.

So if we're talking about:

- Black gangs
- Teenage Shooting
- Childhood obesity
- Junk sleep
- The rise in ADHD and other behavioural issues etc. etc.

It's all the same thing. Treating the symptoms may ease the pain, but it won't cure the problem

"To judge by the 'Most recommended' posts on the 'Fear of Crime' thread, there are a lot of mail readers out there.
Or maybe that's is just how a lot of people feel in the real world."

Harry Flashman

The most recommended posts are not a very good way of gauging REAL public opinion.

This was illustrated so beautifully recently when the BNP failed to register even a gnat's fart in the council elections. Had you paid attention to just HYS, you'd have predicted the exact opposite.

I dont know why my post was rejected, especially after a resounding seal of approval from fed-up adults. To put it bluntly, most teenagers nowadays have everything the older generation did not, yet they whine and whinge about how bored they are and expect us 'oldies' to show them respect. No wonder most teens are obese, they do nothing. All it takes is a bit of firm self 'motivation' and showing a bit of respect to their elders and they may find their elders will show respect in return.

You obviously don't live near my parents whose lives are being ruined by gangs of white thugs roaming the streets armed with bottles of white lightning, girls to show off to and banged up motors they race around in while drunk. Most young people of colour I have met are far better behaved than their white brothers.

Dear LiberalLeft&Proud,

If you feel it is acceptable for a minority of posters to spoil another debate by bringing in racist angles (either for or against) then that is up to you.

If you read David Banks comment which is in the top 10 of readers recommend you will see the intial post that made him comment.

I suggest you take a look & judge for yourself whether it deserves another (YANW) PC reply...

Personally I dont think their is a teenagerism law in force at the moment.

Funny how those who think of themselves as Middle Class and read the Mail or Express really are not.
Phosgene Gasse

They are lower middle class. All self-righteous indignation and very little creativity or verve. The ads for the Mail in the 80s were hilarious, do you remember? "Oh, Ya, Em going to Gstaad and simply must take my Daily Mail" . The average Mail reader was going to Butlins or The Costa Brava, not bloody Gstaad. Oh and it was west indians they routinely pilloried then. Plus ca.

kesh bush

What ideal does Michael Jackson apparently follow? I can't tell what colour he is anymore. Anyway, in all seriousness, it's highly unfair to tar all people of a certain colour with the same brush. Crime has no boundaries on colour, and in my area, I see an almost equal amount of troublemaking kids of white, black and brown skin. Let's have them all asleep in bed, instead of on the streets.
