The woman found slain this week in Takoma Park had suffered stab wounds, police said Wednesday. They identified her as Elena Gugicheva, 34, and said she had been trained as a paralegal.

Her body was discovered near a large outdoor trash bin in an office park about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 7500 block of New Hampshire Avenue. Gugicheva worked in the office park.

Another employee at the office park, who was disposing of trash in the fenced-in garbage area, found Gugicheva’s body.

“By all accounts, she was a pleasant person,” said Takoma Park Police Chief Alan Goldberg.

Efforts to reach relatives and friends of Gugicheva for comment Wednesday were not successful.

Takoma Park detectives continue to work leads in the case. They said that anyone with information may call 301-270-1100.

The homicide was the first one this year in Takoma Park. The last one happened in August 2014, when Cecil Brown, 73, was found dead in his back yard.
