Top players

G Drew Calhoun, Parkdale, 5-8, So.

G Briel Palmer, Parkdale, 5-3, Jr.

G Octavia Wilson, Eleanor Roosevelt, 5-8, Jr.

F Dami Oloyede, High Point, 5-11, Sr.

Skinny: Defending Maryland 4A state champion Eleanor Roosevelt watched All-Met Kaila Charles and Jaala Henry transfer to Riverdale Baptist and National Christian, respectively, this offseason and returns just one starter. But Wilson has developed into a Division I prospect with a deft outside shooting touch and sophomore Ashia McCalla will take on a larger role after a promising freshman season. . . .

Parkdale will be a threat to knock off the Raiders after adding Palmer via transfer. She was one of the leading scorers in the Washington area last year at Northwestern and will team with Calhoun, who averaged 16 points and hit 43 three-pointers as a freshman, to form a fearsome backcourt. . . .

C.H. Flowers got a head start on adjusting to life with star De’Janae Boykin when she missed most of last season due to injury, so seniors Nicole Hill and Kameryn Robinson are used to doing some of the heavy lifting. . . .

Wise should challenge for a league title with the return of senior Olivia Barnes, sophomore Destiny Batts and a bevy of other contributors from last season. . . . Suitland will lean on four sophomores to contribute heavily after losing Charnise Taylor (North Carolina A&T), but the return of its entire starting backcourt — juniors Jahnaya Peterson and Deanna Moore — should help ease the transition. . . .

Bowie could be much improved after winning just seven games last season. The Bulldogs have four starters back, led by seniors Alexis Gordon, Tatiana Garvin and Kasey Stevens. They’ve also added transfer Jayln Johnson from Elizabeth Seton. . . . High Point won only four games a year ago, but will feature one of the county’s top returning scorers in Oloyede.
