Cambridgeshire police said that Broadway, a road in the centre of the town, had been closed due to an accident. Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang as the single-decker bus crashed into the regional offices for the Guide Dogs charity. Two people were rescued from the car, and local people helped injured people from the bus. No one inside the office was hurt.
A police spokeswoman said: “Police were called to reports of a collision between a bus and a car on Broadway in Peterborough at 11.43am this morning. The single-decker bus also collided with a building. East of England Ambulance Service said 13 people were injured. Seven were taken to Peterborough city hospital, two went to a nearby minor injuries unit and four did not need further treatment.

In a later statement the ambulance service said that of the 13 injured, seven were taken to Peterborough city hospital, two went to a nearby minor injuries unit, and four did not need further treatment. A spokeswoman for Guide Dogs said the office had been severely damaged but no people or dogs were injured.
Cambridgeshire fire service said it had rescued two people from the crashed car, and tweeted photos showing seemingly extensive damage to the house. It was not known if the occupants of the car were badly injured. She said: “Just before midday on Christmas Eve a bus crashed into our regional offices in Peterborough causing structural damage to the front of the building. Three members of staff (no guide dogs) were inside the building at the time of impact.
“Immediate action was taken to make sure everyone inside the building was safe and work is under way to ensure the building is made safe and secure.”
Cambridgeshire fire service said it used cutting equipment to rescue two people from the crashed car. A structural engineer was called to assess the damage to the building and a gas engineer isolated the mains.
The Peterborough Telegraph said the driver of the car, a woman in her 50s, and her female passenger were among those taken to hospital.

We went outside and saw that the bus had gone into the car and then mounted the pavement into the side of the building a couple of doors down.
“A few of the passengers came out of the bus with bloody noses and whiplash. Some of them came in and we offered them cups of tea and coffee. Then we were evacuated because of a suspected gas leak so we all just left.”
