Theresa May to be next PM as Andrea Leadsom quits Tory leadership election - latest live updates David Cameron: Theresa May will be in place as PM by Wednesday evening - latest live updates

Andrea Leadsom is reportedly set to drop out of the Conservative leadership race in an announcement at noon, clearing the way for Theresa May to be named Britain's next Prime Minister. Theresa May will take the keys to No 10 by Wednesday evening, David Cameron has confirmed.
Ms Leadsom is expected to make a statement 12.15.  The Prime Minister said he was "delighted" that the Home Secretary would succeed him in Downing Street and he will go to the Palace to offer his resignation to the Queen on Wednesday afternoon.
It follows a torrid week for the Tory leadership contender who came under attack from senior Conservative colleagues for her incendiary comments on Theresa May’s childlessness.  Mr Cameron will chair his last Cabinet meeting tomorrow morning and appear in the Commons for the final time as premier when he takes to the Despatch Box for Prime Minister's Questions at noon on Wednesday.
There are suggestions, however, that the party would need to find an alternative to Ms Leadsom to allow the 150,000 party members a proper choice.
