Jurors have been told by the judge they have three options regarding the murder charge: guilty of murder; not guilty of murder; or not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter.
Regarding the rape charge, they must decide if he is guilty or not guilty.
During the trial, the court heard Miss Chipchase got into a taxi with Mr Tenniswood back to his house from outside NB's nightclub in the town.
He told the jury Miss Chipchase had placed his hands on her neck during "loving" sex at his house.
He said he inadvertently throttled Miss Chipchase through "inexperience and incompetence".
Mr Tenniswood told the court: "I, in my over-eagerness to please her, either sustained the pressure just too long or just gripped too tightly."
