Police have said they are investigating the incident, which occurred close by to Shotton Airfield.
Ian Rosenvinger, from the Skydive Academy at Peterlee Parachute Centre at the airfield, told the Northern Echo that the woman was a 'regular jumper' at the centre.
He suggested the woman had crashed after her parachute failed to open properly.
