Has Great Britain's Brexit referendum brought Ireland closer to reunification?

Version 0 of 1. Despite the fact Brexit has yet to actually happen, there are many predictions about its possible impact. One of the issues under discussion is what effect it will have on relations between Northern Ireland and Ireland. The leader of the Republic of Ireland’s main opposition party is one of several politicians who believes Brexit could move Ireland closer to reunification. Micheál Martin, the Fianna Fáil leader, said that the majority vote in favour of remaining in the EU in Northern Ireland (56% voted against Brexit) could be a defining moment for region. “The remain vote may show people the need to rethink current arrangements. I hope it moves us towards majority support for unification, and if it does we should trigger a reunification referendum,” he said.
