A 40-year-old man has been charged with the murder of an elderly married couple in County Armagh. A 40-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the double murder of an elderly couple in County Armagh.
The man was arrested in the Springfields area of Portadown after the deaths of Michael and Marjorie Cawdery on Friday. Thomas Scott McEntee, from Moorfield Court in Kilkeel, is accused of stabbing the pensioners to death.
The couple, both 83, were found in their Upper Ramone Park home in Portadown. They are reported to have been stabbed. The bodies of Michael and Marjory Cawdery, both 83, were discovered by their daughter and son-in-law at their house in Upper Ramone Park in Portadown on Friday.
The man will appear at Lisburn Magistrates' Court on Tuesday. Mr McEntee is accused of entering their home armed with a knife.
He has also been charged with aggravated burglary and aggravated vehicle-taking. He is also accused of stealing a chequebook and the couple's car.
Mr McEntee stood in the dock of Lisburn Magistrates Court with his head bowed as he listened to the charges on Tuesday.
A detective inspector said he could connect the accused to the charges.
His solicitor told the court his client has "mental health difficulties" and was under supervision in the police station.
No application for bail was made during the short hearing.
Mr McEntee was remanded into custody and will appear again in court on the 23 June.
