Norris Green police officer van attack: Man charged Everton man in court after Merseyside Police officer hit by van

A man has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a police officer was hit by a van in Liverpool. A man has appeared in court charged with seriously injuring a police officer who was knocked down by a van.
Police were trying to stop a white Ford Transit van in Norris Green when it hit the officer at 19:25 GMT on Saturday. Martin Stowell, 34, appeared at Liverpool Magistrates' Court charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to resist arrest.
Martin Stowell, 34, of Queens Road, Everton, faces five charges in total, also including driving whilst disqualified. Mr Stowell, of Queens Road, Everton was also charged with causing serious injury to Sgt James Morgan by dangerous driving at about 19:20 GMT on Saturday.
He is due to appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court later on Monday. The police officer suffered injuries to his ribs and leg in the incident.
Mr Stowell, who has been remanded in custody, also faces charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to resist arrest, aggravated vehicle taking and possession of a class B drug, namely cannabis. He was hit by a white Transit van in Hasfield Road, Norris Green.
The officer was taken to hospital for injuries to his ribs and leg, Merseyside Police said. Merseyside Police said the incident happened after officers attempted to stop the van.
After mounting the pavement, it collided with a police vehicle, other parked vehicles, and the officer.
Stowell, who wore a grey tracksuit, was also charged with aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and possession of cannabis.
George White, defending, said no bail application would be made on behalf of Stowell, who was remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on 2 January.
