A commuter train has derailed near the northern Italian city of Milan, killing at least three people and injuring about 100, officials say. A packed commuter train has derailed near the northern Italian city of Milan, leaving at least four people dead and around 10 seriously injured.

Two helicopters have been deployed to the rescue operation, newspaper Corriere Della Sera reports (in Italian). Some of the injured are receiving first aid in a nearby field. The train was travelling at normal speed when the accident happened, a spokesperson for Trenord, which operated the service, told Reuters news agency.
A witness told Repubblica newspaper that the train "began to tremble" before the accident.
Milan police chief Marcello Cardona said: "We have identified a failure between wagons, but all the investigations are still underway."
