A 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck near the coast of Albania on Tuesday, killing at least six people and injuring 300. It was one of the strongest tremors to hit Albania in decades, and came just two months after the country was struck by another quake.
The Defense Ministry told The Associated Press that a man died in the town of Kurbin after jumping from his home to escape the shaking, a man and a woman were killed in a building collapse in Thumane, and another person died when a building collapsed in Durres. Videos posted to social media in the aftermath showed some damaged buildings. President Ilir Meta called the situation “dramatic” as he visited Thumane, the town closest to the epicenter, where at least two people died.
