A man was killed Tuesday morning in an industrial accident at the former headquarters of Fannie Mae in Northwest D.C., authorities said.

The man was crushed between the bed and the body of a dump truck as the bed was being lowered, a spokesman for the D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department said.

Police were notified about 11 a.m. The man was pronounced dead on the scene, which was within the construction site at 3900 Wisconsin Ave. Builders are redeveloping the old Fannie Mae headquarters into a housing and shopping complex.

According to a report from D.C. police, the man was helping to fix a dump truck that was having mechanical problems and got caught between the bed of the truck and the frame.

Police later identified the victim as Oral Nickelson, 59, of Adelphi, Md.
