Pronounced dead
An ambulance service spokesperson said: "Five people were fatally injured in the road traffic collision, including one child aged 10.
"Our doctor at the scene pronounced four people dead. One person, a 64-year-old female, was still alive when we arrived and was trapped in one of the vehicles. She was freed and taken to Arrowe Park Hospital but died later.
"Two adults and the child were in one car and two adults were in the other vehicle."
