Three further cases of swine flu have been confirmed in Northern Ireland, bring the total number of cases here to 12, the Public Health Agency has said. | |

All three developed mild symptoms after returning to Northern Ireland and are recovering at home on antivirals. | |

The PHA said the other nine cases in Northern Ireland have either recovered or are recovering well. | |
Dr Carolyn Harper, Director of Public Health, said they had been expecting further cases of swine flu. | |
"People should not be alarmed but should continue to be alert. Systems are in place to respond to more cases over the next few weeks," she said. | |
"To slow the spread of flu here, it's important that people who develop flu symptoms within a week of returning from flu-affected countries, stay at home and contact their GP." | |
Dr Harper the best way for people to protect themselves and their families was to cover their nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing and washing their hands afterwards. |
