A man has been rescued after plunging 150ft (45m) from the Britannia Bridge into the Menai Strait between the north Wales mainland and Anglesey. The RNLI launched its new Beaumaris lifeboat for the first time, but he was pulled from the water by an instructor at a nearby sea training school. An RAF helicopter then winched the injured 35-year-old aboard to take him to Ysbyty Gwynedd hospital at Bangor. North Wales Police had several calls that the man had gone into the water. Officers were informed at about 1410 GMT, and coastguards, the ambulance service and the RAF 22 Squadron were mobilised. The man was picked up within five minutes by an inflatable boat from the nearby Indefatigable sea training school. He was reported to be semi-conscious when he was flown to hospital. |
