A London Fire Brigade spokeswoman said there was an explosion in a five-storey building on St Giles High Street, close to the Centrepoint tower. All of those rescued were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, but none required hospital treatment. Thirty firefighters attended the incident, but police said they were not treating it as suspicious. The building has a shop on the ground floor and flats above it. The fire brigade said the blaze appeared to have begun in a ground floor "electrical intake room", which was completely destroyed. Two of those rescued were taken off the roof of the building while others were helped to safety from lower floors. |
