Derry's city centre manager has called on the 32 County Sovereignty Movement to withdraw a threat to picket shops and schools which work with the police.

In a statement to a local newspaper, the group, regarded as the Real IRA's political wing, said it would write to those with dealings with the PSNI.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement warned that if they did not stop they would be the target of protests.

Derry City Centre Manager, Jim Roddy, said traders will feel threatened.

"I think I'm speaking on behalf of the vast majority of people in this city when I say they want to go about their daily business without any threat whatsoever.

"I know they are saying this is not a threat but for the people on the sharp edge of this, this will be a threat," Mr Roddy said.

"I would ask the 32 County Sovereignty movement to retract from its position immediately and to stop trying to prevent people from going about their daily business," he added.
