Detectives said they are anxious to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time. Det Sergeant Peter Traynor, said: "We want to catch this man quickly before he gets the chance to strike again."

He said: "It is absolutely vital that we trace a group of people who were gathered in the area of Blackford Quarry as they may hold vital information about this incident.
"It is understood they had gathered to attend a rave, which was cancelled at the last minute.
"It is entirely possible that these people may have passed the suspect as they left the area, or he could have indeed been part of the group intending to go to the rave.
"We would also appeal to anyone who was in the Liberton Road area between 10pm and 10.30pm, perhaps on a bus heading in or out of town, and may have seen anything to come forward."

Detective Sergeant Peter Traynor, of Lothian and Borders Police, said: "This was a terrifying attack on a defenceless young girl who is understandably very shocked and frightened after her experience.
"It is vital that we track down this man before he attempts to carry out another attack on an innocent victim."
Mr Traynor said that although the rape happened late at night there would have been road traffic and pedestrians around.
