(about 10 hours later)
A security alert is under way following reports of a suspicious object in Strabane. A Sinn Fein councillor and his family had to be evacuated from their home in Strabane after a suspicious object was found outside their house.
Police said an object was discovered at Bridge Street in the town at about 2030 BST on Thursday. Ivan Barr was contacted by police who had been alerted to a suspicious object outside his home in Bridge Street at about 2030 BST on Thursday.
Home owners in Bridge Street, McGurr Park, O'Molan Park and the Waterwall area were asked to go to the back of their homes. A controlled explosion was carried out on the object which was later declared to be a hoax.
It is the fourth alert in the area in five days. A bomb was placed outside the home of a DPP member on Tuesday. Mr Barr said he did not think he had been deliberately targeted.
"I suspect this was young teenagers being mischievous or irresponsible, but I am not convinced that you would want to describe it as a deliberate hoax," he said.
