A "single shooter" was arrested after opening fire near Terminal 3, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. LA Airport police chief Patrick Gannon told reporters a "lone shooter" came into Terminal 3 at 9:20 local time (16:20 GMT).
Authorities engaged the suspect, and multiple people were reported wounded. Their condition remains unknown. The suspect "pulled an assault rifle out of a bag and began to open fire in the terminal," he said.
The Federal Aviation Administration has barred all flights landing at the airport, and outbound flights have been delayed. The suspect then proceeded to a security screening area and continued shooting.
