Police are appealing for fresh information on the killing of a man whose body was found in a burning car.

Firefighters discovered the body of Shokat Chenia, 45, in a silver Mercedes in Wollaton, Nottingham, early on Thursday. He had been stabbed.

Supt Simon Nickless said he was keen to know why Mr Chenia, who lived in Leicester, was in Nottingham.

He said it was important for police to find out what Mr Chenia was doing on the day and night before his murder.

Murder inquiry

"In particular, what I am interested in is where Shokat was during that time, where the vehicle that was predominantly used by Shokat was during that time, and also any connections that Shokat has to the Nottingham area," Supt Nickless said.

A post-mortem examination showed that Mr Chenia suffered stab wounds before the car was set on fire, and died as a result of those injuries.

Police have launched a murder inquiry, but added that a motive for the killing was unknown.

Mr Chenia had a partner and children.
