Derry explosion: Bomb in car in Creggan forces people from their homes
(35 minutes later) | |
A bomb has exploded inside a car parked in a residential area of Londonderry.
No-one was injured in the explosion that happened at about 22:45 GMT on Wednesday at Carrickreagh Gardens in the Creggan area.
Residents had to leave their homes for six hours during the night while bomb experts and police examined the scene.
The car was badly damaged. Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
Sinn Féin councillor Kevin Campbell said: "While it is not yet known what group may have been responsible for leaving this device, what is known is that this action happened in a built-up area.
"I would call upon anyone involved in this type of activity to desist; they are going against the will of the vast majority of the people of Creggan who have indicated time and time again that they want to move forward without these types of incidents happening in their community." | "I would call upon anyone involved in this type of activity to desist; they are going against the will of the vast majority of the people of Creggan who have indicated time and time again that they want to move forward without these types of incidents happening in their community." |
