Gatwick Express: Rail worker hit by 80mph train

The worker was supervising an 11-strong gang carrying out track maintenance work near Redhill in Surrey on 24 June, it has emerged. The gang was undertaking repairs to the London-bound line between Redhill Tunnel and Quarry Tunnel. The train was a passenger service from Gatwick Airport to London Victoria. The Rail Accident Investigation Branch said it would consider the sequence of events and any factors that may have led to the accident. It said it would identify any safety lessons and publish its report. |
