Swansea reported to Fifa by Utrecht over Michel Vorm sale to Tottenham
(35 minutes later) | |
Fifa has confirmed they have received a complaint from Michel Vorm’s former club Utrecht in relation to the Dutch goalkeeper’s transfer from Swansea to Tottenham.
Vorm moved from south Wales to White Hart Lane last month for an undisclosed fee, with Utrecht claiming they have not received 30% of Vorm’s transfer fee, which they claim was part of a sell-on agreement between them and Swansea when he moved to Wales for £1.5m in 2011.
A Fifa spokesperson said: “We can confirm that we’ve received a complaint from Utrecht against Swansea in connection with the transfer of Michel Vorm. At this stage we cannot make any further comment.”
Swansea last week issued a statement to say the transfer was “conducted and concluded correctly under Premier League rules”. A Swansea spokesman said: “It was approved by the Premier League and also Fifa via their TMS (Transfer Matching) system. | Swansea last week issued a statement to say the transfer was “conducted and concluded correctly under Premier League rules”. “While we have been in contact with Utrecht as a matter of courtesy, we will continue to conduct our business in the best interest of our club and our supporters, and not based on the views of other clubs.”
Utrecht’s general manager Wilco van Schaik spoke to BBC Wales and claimed he was told by the Swansea chairman, Huw Jenkins, that Vorm had been released for free.
“That’s unbelievable and unacceptable,” Van Schaik said. “Michel is a very reliable goalkeeper in the Premier League. He is 30 years old, in the prime of his life. He still had a two-year contract and has a good reputation. Besides that, he’s a solid member of the Dutch squad. We want to have the 30% as we agreed.” |
