Amir Khan refused US visa to watch Mayweather rematch with Maidana
Version 0 of 1. Amir Khan’s plans to watch Floyd Mayweather’s rematch with Marcos Maidana from ringside in Las Vegas on Saturday were scuppered when the welterweight was denied entry into the US. The 27-year-old tweeted: “Visa to America was declined after I had it approved a week ago. Was looking forward to the fight. Means I’m still in England.” He previously experienced visa issues back in 2010 when a proposed training camp in Los Angeles in the run-up to his fight with Paulie Malignaggi had to be relocated to Vancouver. A year later, Khan said he was held in Los Angeles customs for over two hours because he is a Muslim. Earlier this year Khan was arrested after being accused of assault in his hometown of Bolton, allegations that were later withdrawn. He told the Guardian: “Some kids started throwing things at my car. I got out of the car and one of them pushed me. I pushed him back and he fell on the floor. That was about it. “I was on my own and there were 20 of them. It was just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. So it was a huge relief the case got dropped.” |
