Woman taken from overturned car | |

A woman has been rescued by police after her car overturned and ended up suspended several feet above a stream in County Londonderry. | |

The accident happened shortly before 0900 GMT on Tuesday. It is not believed any other vehicles were involved. | |
The woman suffered shock, but is understood to have suffered no major injuries in the crash. | |
Constable David McKillop, who was involved in the rescue, said: "Her car had left the road and was suspended almost upside down in the branches of the tree about six to eight feet above a stream. | |
"There was eventually three of us involved in the rescue. | |
"Two of us smashed the back window and placed a blanket around the rear window of the car to protect the lady from any shards of glass that may have remained and what we did then was effectively form a human chain to guide her out of the car and onto the safety of the roadside." | |

Inspector Andrew Lemon praised the work of the officers. | |
"Thankfully, police were on the scene within minutes and using a step ladder and blankets, supplied by a local resident, broke the rear window of the vehicle and managed to free the woman," he said. | |
The cause of the crash is being investigated. |
