Libya: Apology After Airstrike
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/06/world/middleeast/libya-apology-after-airstrike.html Version 0 of 1. Fighter jets sent by Libya’s internationally recognized government bombed a Greek-owned tanker ship off an eastern city controlled by Islamist extremists on Monday, killing two crew members and wounding two, Libyan and Greek officials said, in what appeared to have been a mistake. Libyan officials apologized for the bombing. A military spokesman, Ahmed al-Mesmari, said jets struck the vessel twice off Derna before the government learned that the vessel had been commissioned by the local power station. But the state-run National Oil Corporation said that it had informed all parties that it had contracted the ship. |
