Firefighters tackle major blaze at house in Peebles

Fifty firefighters have tackled a major blaze at a house in the Borders.

Two fire engines initially attended a chimney fire at a detached house in Kingsmeadows Road, Peebles, shortly after 18:00 on Friday.

But other crews were called in from Edinburgh and neighbouring towns after the blaze swept through the ground and first floor of the property.

Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service attended, but there were no casualties.

However, the two-storey property was extensively damaged.
