An ex-Premier League player has been expelled from his Bedfordshire County League club after a changing room fight left a man with a head injury.

Calum Davenport, 32, was arrested following the scuffle last weekend.

Mr Davenport, once a £3m signing for West Ham United, had been sent off late in a game playing for Division One Elstow Abbey against Cranfield United.

The man was taken by ambulance from the Crawley Road ground to Bedford Hospital for treatment, police said.

A spokesman for Elstow Abbey said: "The club wishes to confirm that following the incident after our match with Cranfield United on Saturday an internal investigation took place, and as a result Calum Davenport is no longer with the club."

Police were called at 16:35 GMT by the ambulance service, and Mr Davenport was arrested and later released on bail until 17 April.
