Tunisia gunman Seifeddine Rezgui 'laughed' as he took 'photographs of the bodies,' witness says
Version 0 of 1. The gunman who murdered 38 tourists on a Tunisian beach laughed while he took photographs of their bodies, a survivor has said. Paul Short, who was staying in one of the resort’s hotels with his wife Sarah when the attack took place, said he witnessed Seifeddine Rezgui, 23, just metres from him as he tried to help fellow tourists. “The gunman was just around the corner, not even 50 metres away from us," he told Good Morning Britain. "The gunman was busy with his gun on his back with a phone out taking photographs of the bodies and laughing." Mr Short, a former Territorial Army member, got his wife to their hotel room when the couple first heard gunshots. Afterwards, he saw “three or four bodies lying on the steps, just outside my room.” The former TA serviceman managed to help one of the victims who was still alive, giving him a tourniquet to stem the bleeding from his thigh, before attempting to help more tourists alongside another former TA volunteer. Mr Short’s description of Rezgui comes after reports that the gunman’s phone has been found by police. The item was retrieved from the waves at around 6am the morning following the attack in front of the Imperial Marhaba hotel. It is hoped that the data contained on the phone may help investigators. Police believe the gunman made a 10-second call just before he opened fire on the packed beach. Meanwhile, Prime Minister David Cameron has announced a minutes silence on Friday for the 22 British victims killed in the deadly attack in the Tunisian port town of Sousse last week. |
