Pensioner dies trying to save drowning teenagers on Welsh beach

Version 0 of 1. A 75-year-old man has died after trying to rescue two teenage girls at a Welsh beach. Police say that the two girls got into difficulties in the water at Tywyn beach yesterday afternoon at around 16:15. The pensioner was helping a second man come to the girls' aid when he became unconscious. He was rescued from the water by a local lifeboat crew and airlifted to hospital. He later died. In a statement, North Wales Police said: "The second man and the two girls were recovered safely from the water and the teenagers were taken to hospital to be monitored as a precaution." The Tywyn beach is on the Cardigan Bay coast of southern Gwynedd in Wales. North Wales Police have issued a warning asking the public to take extra care in the sea as the recent heatwave has drawn many more people to the beach. |
