Previous figures from the Baby Centre, based on its own research for 2014, put Oliver and Sophia as the top names, although Muhammed was the most popular for boys when spelling variations were combined. Sasha Miller, from the Baby Centre, said the statistics show that "traditional classics" remain popular with parents but that a growing royal trend can be seen.
"George is in the top 10, as are George's dad and uncle William and Harry all leading the country," she added. "With another royal baby born this year, it will be interesting if Charlotte trends in 2015."
She also noted a trend of girls' names ending in "a", such as Ava, Olivia and Isla.
