West Yorkshire Police the fire had been extinguished and a search made by fire crews which confirmed that no-one remained inside. The landlord of the pub told a BBC Radio Leeds reporter that women and children were among those inside the premises at the time of the attack.
Two shift workers at the nearby Ferrybridge power station, who were staying at the pub, also told the reporter they were working at the time but returned to find the pub wrecked.
West Yorkshire Police said a search made by fire crews had confirmed that no-one remained inside.
