ITV is in talks with the stars of hit comedy Cold Feet, the tale of three 30-something couples in Manchester, to revive the show more than decade after it was cancelled. The show, which starred James Nesbitt, Hermione Morris and Fay Ripley, ran for five series between 1998 and 2003. ITV is in talks with the core cast members with a new series earmarked to air next spring, according to the Sun. Cold Feet was one of ITV’s biggest shows of the 1990s and has been described as the UK’s answer to Friends or Thirtysomething. The broadcaster is hoping to air the revival series in its old Sunday-night slot to help fill the ratings void when Downton Abbey ends later this year. “This is speculation,” said a spokeswoman for ITV. “There is always so much interest in a Cold Feet reunion.” Helen Baxendale, whose character Rachel was killed off in a lorry crash, said in 2011 that she had been asked if she would somehow, in principle, return for a revival show. However, she is thought to be unlikely to return in the reboot that ITV is close to reaching agreement on. The final episode of the original series drew 10.7 million viewers. The show has been broadcast in more than 34 countries and was adapted by major TV stations in the US, Italy, Czech Republic and Poland. It has also spawned merchandise including books and a board game. News that ITV was working on reviving Cold Feet was first reported by Forbes in July. |
