Two dead after car crashes into house near Doncaster Two dead after car crashes into house near Doncaster
(35 minutes later)
Two people have died after a car crashed into a house and then burst into flames, police have said. Two people have died and a third is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a car crashed into a house and caught fire.
A third person is being treated in hospital with life-threatening injuries after the incident in Branton, near Doncaster. All three were inside the car at the time of the incident in Branton, a village near Doncaster, said South Yorkshire police, who were alerted at about 12.50pm on Tuesday.
South Yorkshire police said all three of the injured were in the car. Tracey Jackson, who said she had witnessed the aftermath, told a journalist she and her husband Paul “were coming home from work when we were overtaken by this erratic driver who was weaving in and out of the road and overtaking cars into oncoming traffic.
The incident took place at around 12.50pm and emergency services remain at the scene in Poppyfields Way. “My husband was really angry because it nearly caused us to crash and the five of them in the car were swearing at my husband as they passed us,” Jackson said.
Doncaster Road is expected to remain closed for some time while the Yorkshire air ambulance and South Yorkshire fire and rescue service respond to the incident. “Next thing we saw a massive plume of smoke come up before we turned the corner and realised that the car had hit a bollard in the middle of the road, lost control and crashed into the side of this house,” she said.
“The driver got out of the car and was on fire – he was bleeding on his back and came shouting that he was going to get scars.
“Two other people got out of the car and fled but they looked badly injured and one of them had a very severe injury on his leg.
“We don’t know what happened to them, they just ran away.
“All five of them looked like they were in their 20s.”
Jackson said there was one person in the house at the time of the crash who couldn’t get out.
“The young boy who lives in the house was only 21 and his parents are on holiday. He was outside but his girlfriend was in the house and she couldn’t get out for a while.
“She looked like she was in shock.”
Another witness said a nurse was among the first at the scene.
She said: “It was unbelievable. The car was in flames and rolled straight into the house on the corner.
“It rolled straight into the front garden in flames and a man came running out.
“The air ambulance has been here. There is a lot of police and fire engines and there were plumes of smoke.”
Doncaster Road was closed after the incident. It is likely to remain closed for some time as emergency services, including South Yorkshire fire and rescue and Yorkshire air ambulance, respond to the incident.
