A green wing macaw has been reunited with its pet shop owner after it was stolen by a burglar who fled with the bird on the handlebars of his bike.

The female parrot, called Charlie and worth £2,000, was stolen on 4 August from Timperley Aquatics Pet & Reptile Centre, in Greater Manchester.

Shop owner Graham Ralston said he was "overwhelmed" to get his parrot back.

Greater Manchester Police said a man, 47, will appear at Manchester Crown Court next month accused of burglary.

Mr Ralston said: "Thankfully, it appears she has been cared for by whoever had her, and she seems her normal self although a little bit short in tail feathers."

He added he wanted to thank all those who responded to his social media appeals to find the bird.

The macaw, which is not for sale, is affectionately known as Baby.

Mr Ralston said he often walked round the store, in Stockport Road, Timperley, with Charlie on his shoulder.
