The man accused of murdering a British woman in a Bulgarian village has been found dead in prison.

Ivan Georgiev, 40, is believed to have killed himself on Tuesday night in jail in the Yambol region of the country.

Jan Bennett, 67, was raped and killed on 30 July while out walking her dogs in Malomir, the village where she and her husband Nick had recently moved.

The couple had lived in Eastville, Bristol but had left for Turkey six years ago to start a new life.

They had settled in the coastal Turkish town of Altinkum, before moving to Bulgaria earlier in the summer.

About 50 expats and Turks attended a memorial service held for her on 16 August in Turkey.
