Lorry driver and 27 stowaways held at Cobham services

A lorry driver has been arrested along with 27 suspected illegal immigrants at a service station on the M25 in Surrey.

Police said officers went to the Cobham services at about 10:50 BST after suspicions were raised about an HGV.

They said 27 people found in the lorry were arrested on suspicion of illegal entry to the UK.

The HGV driver was also detained on suspicion of facilitating the import of illegal immigrants, a Surrey Police spokeswoman said.

Ambulance crews went to the service station between junctions 9 for Leatherhead and 10 for Guildford to medically assess the group, she added.

The case has been handed to the UK Visas and Immigration Service.
