A car was smashed through the window of a building society in a cash machine robbery.

Officers were called to the Coventry Building Society on The Parade in Leamington Spa at about 08:30 BST.

Four men from the silver Kia fled the scene in a silver Vauxhall Astra, before abandoning it and jumping into a dark grey saloon car, police said.

Two cash machine boxes were taken. Officers are working to determine how much money they contained.

An eyewitness heard a commotion and saw a man get out of the car with a black handkerchief over his face, while another man was wearing a balaclava.

Eleanor Bacon, who works opposite, said: "There was quite a bit of commotion. I was looking out of the office window. I thought it was an accident to begin with."

The silver getaway car was later abandoned on Morrell Street, police said.

Officers think the suspects then got into a dark grey saloon-type vehicle.

A Warwickshire Police spokesman said: "The investigation is in its early stages and we are still trying to establish exactly what has been taken."
