Lancashire tap water: Further restrictions lifted across county
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-34122216 Version 0 of 1. Advice to boil tap water before drinking it has been lifted in a further 25,000 homes in Lancashire. About 300,000 homes have had to boil drinking water for more than three weeks after cryptosporidium, a microbial parasite, was discovered. United Utilities said people in parts of South Blackpool and Lytham St Annes can drink water straight from the tap. Traces of the bug continue to reduce, with restrictions lifted on over half of affected households. United Utilities said it had sent confirmation letters and texts to households no longer part of the restrictions. Action was taken after the microbial parasite was found near Preston on 6 August. Water has been treated with ultra violet light to kill the bug, which can cause diarrhoea and cramps. Customers can check which areas have had restrictions lifted by visiting the United Utilities website or calling 0800 912 7241. |
